Release 11/10/2008: Robert
Smith - Photos of Elvis Presley currently
on display at Shawn’s Gate. The
date was April 1st, 1957. The place was Memorial
Auditorium. Robert L. Smith, a photographer for the
Buffalo Evening News was in attendance to document
the performance of a young, up and coming singer
named Elvis Presley. When he arrived he was invited
back stage by a Buffalo Police officer who asked
if he would take pictures of his nieces with Elvis.
The results were a series of photos rarely seen by
the public. read

Release 2/2/2008 - Awards
were announced for first, second and third place
during the
opening of the Black and White Show on Saturday,
February 2nd. Over
threehundred attendees viewed the varied works created
by twenty-seven local and regional artists and enjoyed
a wine tasting Vizcarra Vineyards of Becker Farms.
Third
place, went to Joseph Whalen for "Man Walking," Sharp
stick and Ink. Second place, went to Angela Sandell
for her ebony pencil, "Hollow Tree." First
Place, was awarded to Paul Martin for "Rene'
at UB," pencil. Two Director's Choice awards
were also given to Amanda Tomasikiewicz for her
charcoal rendering, "Odonata," and
to Jason Wulf for "Dark Matter," in
mosaic tile.

Market Street Artist Does it "Saratoga Style"
This summer,
the Saratoga County Arts Council in Saratoga Springs,
New York is sponsoring Horses, Saratoga Style 2007.
This public art project will feature 34 life-sized
fiberglass horses that have been embellished by artists
from New York, Vermont, and Massachusetts. One of
these horses is being created right here in Lockport
by Stephanie M. Dunatov. The artist is affording
the public the rare opportunity to watch an art horse "in
progress" as she works from her Market Street
studio.

Release 3/31/2007:"Lamb
of God" by local artist Kathleen
Giles is on display at the Market Street
Art Center.
The original watercolor is part of the new Whalen-Giles Rotating Exhibit at
the art center. The painting is a departure from Giles' usual work who's religious
paintings ordinarily feature a smiling Jesus.
